Major events are unique occasions for video surveillance systems and security solutions in general, and even more so today, when it becomes important to combine the protection of spaces and people with the necessary tracking of flows and the maintenance of the correct social distancing.
Canon Italia, which will be present with its offer at SICUREZZA 2021, told us about the video surveillance solution successfully applied in 2019 during the Notte della Taranta, one of the major international events of the South of Italy summer.
Given the event's strong appeal, an advanced technological solution was required to support the organisers, institutions and police forces, in addition to the most advanced IP video surveillance and video analysis technology. The system, created with the collaboration of a system integrator from Lecce, covered an area of 2 square kilometres where more than 200,000 people were present. The system included four 1.3 megapixel speed domes and five bullet cameras with motorized zoom, which were capable of producing sharp, highly luminous images that were projected in real time through the fibre optic network into the control room for the exclusive use of the police forces.
For the occasion, Canon Italia used the sophisticated “Crowd People Counter” application software to count people in crowded places. This is a solution that, by dialoguing with the video surveillance cameras, is able to ensure with extreme precision the detection of people facing in any direction within a sensitive area, allowing monitoring according to a “threshold” logic of any critical situation. By using the viewing angle of the surveillance camera, it provides greater flexibility and makes this tool ideal for outdoor use.
Thanks to the skilful intervention of a local installation partner, Canon's solution was integrated with the technologies of the Group's partner companies; a network of 18 innovative digital cameras, the software platform connected to them, the video analysis functionality which, thanks to the integration of software and hardware, real-time alerting and data-drive operational intelligence, made it possible to support post-event investigations. The combination of these technologies resulted in crisp, high-resolution images with fast focus for optimal framing even in difficult conditions, such as low-light, low-contrast or point light sources, as well as a high level of detail.
Great events and more: new products, innovative integration solutions and best practices implemented in every application area will be the stars at SICUREZZA 2021, providing visiting operators with concrete tools for updating and ideas for expanding their business.
