OVER TO THE COMPANIES. Safety in mobility: intelligent technologies and tailor-made solutions for an increasingly connected ecosystem
image
Mobility safety is no longer just a set of cameras: it is a complex ecosystem, involving technology, regulations, design and interaction between different actors. From city streets to buses, from car parks to driver’s cabins, every detail can make the difference between a safe journey and a vulnerable one. And thanks to increasingly intelligent, integrated and tailor-made solutions, the future of mobility promises to be not only more efficient, but also profoundly safer. We speak to Dahua Technology and Provision-ISR

Safety in mobility has never been as crucial as it is today. Whether moving in urban areas or along major transport routes, the objective always remains the same: guaranteeing the protection of people, vehicles and infrastructures, without sacrificing the efficiency and fluidity of travel.

Today, the concept of “security for mobility” includes a set of technologies and strategies ranging from advanced video surveillance to artificial intelligence, all the way to cyber security. In this complex and ever-evolving ecosystem, companies such as Dahua Technology and Provision-ISR offer solutions capable of responding to increasingly specific and sector-specific needs.

Mobility by road and rail: the challenge of safety in public transport

“Video surveillance on mobile vehicles is very different from traditional surveillance. For it to be respected, specific certifications, technical adaptations and precise regulations must be adopted”, explains Luca Pari, BU Sales Manager Italy

of Dahua Technology, which for years has been developing solutions for local public transport, both by road (buses) and rail (trams, trains, light rail).

Dahua has already created over 8000 systems in Italy, collaborating with more than 50 transport companies: “Our focus is on the technological adaptation of the vehicles to improve their safety and efficiency. Our systems go beyond simple video recording: they integrate tools such as passenger counting, blind spot analysis, rear-view cameras and even 360° cameras to support manoeuvres”.

One of the most interesting innovations is the integration of artificial intelligence through ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and DSM (Driver Status Monitoring) systems. “ADAS systems detect skidding, sudden braking, and sudden obstacles. DSM systems, on the other hand, monitor the driver's status, reporting distractions or drowsiness, all while respecting privacy, without video recordings, but with audible and visual alerts".

But safety also concerns the driver himself, who is often the victim of attacks. “We have set up panic buttons that, if activated, send images to the control centre in real time. Dahua's philosophy is based on a sartorial approach: “Every vehicle has unique needs. We work with certified installers who know how to operate on the vehicles, often integrating our systems with existing ones. When needed, we also develop custom firmware: from post-incident management to communication with proprietary protocols, everything can be customised”.

Provision-ISR: urban security and cyber protection on the front line

While Dahua oversees safety on board vehicles, Provision-ISR looks at the city and its infrastructures, focusing on intelligent video surveillance and cyber security. “We are present in around 50 countries and work exclusively with video surveillance systems. Urban security is our core business, together with the protection of the devices themselves from cyber threats”, explains Leonardo Severi, Technical Manager Provision-ISR Italia.

One of the main fields of application is automated parking and access, managed with licence plate reading via cameras. “Our solutions allow not only us to monitor entrances, but also to create automatic alerts in the event of anomalous behaviour or irregular parking. We use artificial intelligence to reconstruct complex scenarios, identify vagrancy, intrusions or suspicious presences”.

The real frontier, however, is the integration between intelligent hardware and software: “With a single control room, you can monitor vast areas, process data in real time, and intervene promptly. This improves not only safety, but also the organisation of the territory”.

A distinctive feature of Provision-ISR is itsconsultative approach: “We work only through professional distributors, we do not sell online or through generalist channels. This allows us to guarantee highly specialised assistance and to build ad hoc solutions for each customer”. In fact, each project is a tailor-made suit: “Our cameras are very versatile, but it is the software that makes the difference. Based on the context, we can configure real-time notifications, post-event reconstructions, video analysis. And thanks to our Italian headquarters, we support installers and distributors with training courses, webinars, YouTube tutorials and even a training room in Arezzo”.

Another strong point is the immediate technical support: “While many companies use automated call centres, we offer direct contact with qualified technicians. This is highly appreciated by professionals, because it simplifies all phases of the project: from choosing the product to after-sales assistance”.

Not long now until Security 2025: the exhibition as a showcase for the future

Both companies will be present at the next edition of the Sicurezzaexhibition, where they will present innovations related to artificial intelligence, data centralisation and infrastructure protection. “We are working on new functions to protect passengers and drivers, and increasingly intelligent and integrated systems,” Dahua announces. Provision-ISR, on the other hand, anticipates: “We will be focusing on customised software, artificial intelligence and new developments for access control. And, of course, on cyber security”.
