Access control systems have evolved considerably over the last 10 to 15 years, with mobile and biometric technology, QR codes and automatic number plate recognition systems ; solutions that offer users numerous options and sector professionals new challenging perspectives.
However, an overview of the current situation of the systems used in Italy, and questioning those who use them on a daily basis, shows that all too often obsolete technologies are used, which are not in step with the new demands in security and flow management, which now boast touchless solutions that go well beyond the classic badge.
Control systems using biometrics, fingerprints, facial or iris recognition are already used, mainly in Asia, where the use of these solutions is growing rapidly. Logical access, the application of which increased during the pandemic to provide employees with remote access without compromising the security of systems, has also grown considerably on a global level.
Clearly, the need for adapting has become apparent. The main features required of a new physical access control system, in general, seem to be ease of use, the ability to add or support new technologies in the future, touchless and contactless features, mobile access and integration with existing security platforms.
For this reason, several key trends are sure to influence the market in the coming years, including the Italian market. These include cloud hosting and access control as a service, which are at the forefront of the new trends. Interoperability and open standards will be essential features.
Finally, sustainable development is also bound to be on the agenda in 2023, with low energy consumption becoming one of the main features required for new systems, and consequently a guiding element when choosing which devices to use.
A scenario to which SICUREZZA 2023 will provide ample space, thanks to the proposals of manufacturers ready to study tailor-made solutions for any application area.
